  • A BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Construction/Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • A BTEC National Award in Construction
  • At least one GCE A level pass, with appropriate supporting passes at GCSE grades A, B or C in an appropriate science or technology subject
  • Mature Applicant – at least 25 years of age with a minimum of 3 years relevant industrial experience.

Course Background

The BTEC Higher National qualifications offered through EDEXCEL in Construction have been developed with career progression and recognition by professional bodies in mind. The courses provide specialised studies directly relevant to individual vocations and professions in which students are currently working or in which they intend to seek employment. They are designed to enable students to make an immediate contribution in employment and provide flexibility, knowledge, skills and motivation as a basis for progression to graduate and postgraduate studies. You will be able to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in your working life.

You will study additional units which will be decided later in the year (HNC – 4, HND – 12).

Teaching and Learning

The blended learning approach is based on a mix of classroom, work-based learning and workshops.

Assessment

Your work is normally assessed through a mixture of assignments, group work, continuous assessment and examinations, depending on the nature of the subject.

The Next Step It is expected that learners from this course will be suitably prepared for entry to employment within the construction environment Alternatively learners may choose to progress on to a Construction Degree programme at university. Completion of an HND normally allows progression on to year 2 of a degree programme.
